Director of Dancers’ Studio where KRDT holds most of its classes, Laurie is a certified yoga teacher and enjoys teaching ballet, modern, tap and yoga to students of all ages. Laurie has taught at the School for the Creative and Performing Arts (SCAPA) since 1997. Her choreography has been seen locally in productions by SCAPA, the Dancers’ Studio, Ballet Under the Stars, Kentucky Ballet Theatre, and the UK Opera Theatre.

Her experience includes teaching ballet majors at SCAPA Lafayette and the sixth grade dance core content at SCAPA Bluegrass. She also teaches ballet and modern to all the high school majors, and supplements the curriculum with units such as college/career planning, history, anatomy, pedagogy and choreography.

Laurie began dancing at her mother’s studio in North Carolina and continued her studies at Walnut Hill School for the Performing Arts, and the University of Iowa. She holds an undergraduate degree in Architecture from NCSU, and an MFA in Dance from UI. Laurie has danced professionally with groups such as Atlantic Dance Theatre, Nebraska Dance Theatre and companies of the Yard. She has also taught at Camp ArtSmart, Summer Shades, EKU, UK and Transylvania University.
